Africa’s Lone Star: Davido Sets to Make History as the Only African Act at Coachella 2026

Nigerian superstar Davido is just days away from making history as he prepares to take the stage at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival for the very first time, becoming the only African artist on the lineup for this year’s edition. The 32-year-old Afrobeats icon is scheduled to perform on both Saturdays of the two-weekend festival, April 11 and April 18, at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, sharing the bill with some of the biggest names in global music.

The moment carries extra weight given how close it came to never happening. Davido was originally booked to perform at Coachella back in 2019 but was forced to pull out due to scheduling conflicts. Seven years later, he finally gets his moment on one of the most watched stages in the world, and he is arriving in the form of his life.

“I’m about to do Coachella. Big plans.” — Davido, in an interview with OkayAfrica

His Coachella appearance comes as part of his ongoing 5IVE Alive World Tour, a mammoth international run that has already taken him across North America and Europe. He recently completed a string of European dates beginning in Vienna in late March, and later this year he is set to headline a major concert in Lusaka, Zambia on May 2, further underlining his deep bond with the African continent even as he conquers international stages.

The Coachella lineup sees Davido perform alongside headliners Justin Bieber, Sabrina Carpenter, Karol G, and Italian DJ Anyma. On the Saturdays he performs, Bieber headlines, with Davido joined on the bill by the likes of Addison Rae, Giveon, and Fujii Kaze. British-Nigerian rapper Little Simz and British-Kenyan pop star PinkPantheress are also on the lineup, adding a strong diaspora presence to the festival even as the overall African representation has been noted as thinner than in recent years.

“With You was not in anybody’s top five. Every time I was performing it, my heart would just start beating, what if I didn’t put this song?” — Davido, on the song that earned him a Grammy nomination

Coachella has been a growing showcase for African music in recent years. The 2025 edition featured South African pop sensation Tyla, Afrobeat legend Seun Kuti with the iconic Egypt 80 band, Ghanaian alt-pop artist Amaarae, and Nigerian rave act Rema. Before that, Burna Boy, Tems, Wizkid, Fireboy DML, and Teni all graced the desert stage. Davido’s debut continues that proud lineage and cements Afrobeats’ status as a permanent fixture on the global festival circuit.

With four Grammy nominations to his name, a string of international hits including Unavailable, Fall, and With You, and a fanbase that stretches across continents, Davido heads into Coachella not as a newcomer trying to make an impression but as a proven global force ready to remind the world exactly why he belongs there.
